With the possible merger of EA and Take-Two having been terminated, gamers are now forever left to wonder how things could have been if ever these two giants combined, fused, and transformed into an unstoppable videogame developer “batroid.”
But even though the brains behind Grand Theft Auto IV and Bioshock will probably never get to work with the richest game company in the world (or at least one of), we could still let our imaginations come into play and think of the kind of games we might have all been excited about in the next year or so. In fact, why don’t we just take the spotlight from EA and Take-Two and just let our thoughts run wild to see what kind of games we could expect if others developers successfully merged.
Sega (Am2) and Capcom: Just think of Shenmue and Resident Evil. The first one had you trying to survive on a daily basis by getting a job and earning money, while the latter had you rationing your inventory so you wouldn’t get mauled by zombies. Put these elements together, and you’ll have a hit game which will let you know what it feels like to be Will Smith from I am Legend, that is, if you don’t turn into a zombie yourself from repetitive gameplay, but I guess that’s the closest we can all get to a real-life “simulator” type of game.
THQ and Ubisoft: THQ is infamous for making games that we should never play, while Ubisoft churns out games like an Amish housewife. Combine them and we can probably expect the worst game, in terms of quality, gameplay, etc, since E.T. for the Atari. I’m curious to see what exactly will the worst game in history of all that is holy will be like. It’s about time that we get something really, really bad. I could just see it becoming an instant cult classic for some reason.
Valve and Namco: I’ve always been a fan of the Ace Combat series, and I played Counter-Strike and all that good stuff before. Though, I have to admit that I’m now a bit weary of multiplayer first person shooters, and I’m still looking for more games that give us arcade style dog-fights. So maybe there’s a way to take that Half-Life engine (the newer one of course) and then add some fighter planes to the mix. I think that would be interesting enough.
Yes, I was only able to come up with three, and they weren’t very good ideas (my imagination wasn’t able to run wild after all), I know. But fuck it. I thought the article would’ve been a good idea until I got through the first half of it, and I’m too lazy to start a new one.
