More news about Tim Burton’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s beloved classic Alice in Wonderland, Disney studios have just announced that Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway will be included in the film.
The lord of all that is gothic, none other than Tim Burton, is working with Walt Disney Pictures to recreate the age-old story of a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself on an acid trip–but seriously, in a magical fantasy world where nothing seems to make sense. The said director is supposedly combining live action with performance-capture technology for this particular movie.
Recently, he has hired the talents of Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries, Brokeback Mountain) and Helena Bonham Carter who has been in almost every Burton movie—gee, I wonder why? The perky and endearing Hathaway will be playing the benevolent White Queen who has been banished and exiled by her evil sister, the Red Queen played by Carter. From the looks of this piece of news, it appears that Burton will be crafting the story with the original book close at hand, unlike the butchered, watered-down and delusionally innocent Disney version from some years back.
Other cast members include Mia Wasikowska, who will be playing Alice, and Johnny Depp, as the infamous Mad Hatter. Depp has also been in almost every Burton movie—hmmm…I’M CERTAINLY WONDERING WHY?! He’s quite a beautiful man after all, isn’t he Tim?
The movie is scheduled to release March 5, 2010.
