It seems that the mobile phone market is getting ready for another all-around, complexly integrated up the wazoo juggernaut of a phone. Set to release in June all over Europe, the HTC Touch Diamond phone is hopeful to make Apple and the rest of the competitors engineers rushing back to the drawing board. But is it really worth the hype?
Improving on their TouchFLO™ 3D technology, the new phone by HTC is said to be the perfect marriage between technology and beauty. It has a 2.8 inch touch screen housed by an elegant brushed steel casing made with “flawless” workmanship. Or in other words, almost another iphone clone.
Although it boasts of having internet connectivity at broadband speeds (which is always a good thing), and is preprogrammed with software covering all the average person’s internet needs. This includes an internet browser, youtube application, google maps software, HTC weather reports, and a media player. The only thing missing is a stock market application. Personally, I’m still waiting for an e-book reader from anyone willing to listen and realize that I’m not the only one who wants a decent one on their phone.
The artistic side of technology is also the phone’s main focus. Making your contacts, Mp3’s, videos and photos “more than just text” appears to be a highlighted feature. You can attach pictures of your loved ones as labels, as if you’re going to forget what your kids or your wife looks like as well as their names.
It is also built with a 3.2 mega pixel camera that shoots both pictures and video. Oh yeah, it also has auto-focus. The storage on the other hand only goes up to 4GB, so you can be sure you’re not going to be able to store your Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy and your Led Zeppelin collection all at once. But it does have a turn-by-turn GPS.
All in all the HTC Touch Diamond looks pretty cool and stylish, but if it really was a marriage between technology and beauty then I’d expect a divorce due to an irreconcilable lack of innovations.
