When Tobey Maguire announced that he’ll abandon the role of Peter Parker, the anticipation of fans on who will replace him made them guess and predict a pool of actors ranging from Michael Arangano (Sky High) to Erik Von Detten whose career became non-existent by the time I was born.
News of who will be the next spidey just emerged, and it looks like Patrick Fugit might be the one. He’s more popular as the aspiring rock journalist in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. He’s also been in films such as Spun with Mena Suvari and John Leguizamo playing a young crack addict. Recently, his film with Shannon Sossamon Wristcutters: A Love Story gained massive acclaim because of the indifferent storyline. Fugit gained quite a popularity in the indie market, which makes it hard to imagine him in such a huge mass-marketed franchise films such as Spiderman. He sure can play the nerdy, quiet Peter Parker, but is his appeal enough to fill in the shoes of the cocky, energetic superhero? He played a crackhead, so it’s pretty sure all his adrenaline from Spun will do him justice this time. No casting news of who’ll replace Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson are surfacing. The question is, will Spiderman’s magic remain with a totally new cast?
Trivia: Patrick Fugit plays guitar in the acoustic-folk indie band Mushman
