Thanks to a remote feature contained in the latest Mac books, New York police were able to track down and arrest two burglars who would have gotten away with robbing an apartment in New York.
Kate Duplaga, an Apple store employee, was robbed of her flat-screen TV, DVD’s, Ipod, and two of her laptop computers. With no leads, the police from White Plains, New York had reached a dead end on pointing out a suspect. It wasn’t until Duplaga remembered that her laptop contained a feature called “Back to My Mac,” which lets the user remotely control their Macbooks from other computers. As reported in The New York Times, Duplaga was able to track her laptop and see that it was being used. By using the webcam attached to the laptop, she was also able to take pictures of the suspects and send it to the police for profiling.
It turned out that the thieves attended a party in Duplaga’s apartment a few days before the robbery. In the end, the police were able to recover almost all the stolen property, and was all thanks to Duplaga’s resourcefulness helped by the latest user technology.
