If I were in Syesha Mercado’s shoes, I’ll be horrified not only because I bet it’ll hurt like a foot slaughter but also because she’s about to face her toughest challenge yet: out-stage the most talented boys American Idol has produced so far.
The two Davids of the season are supreme talents, not to mention the sea fans who vote for them every week. Not that we’re saying her voice wouldn’t cut it, but her style is so predictable its almost like watching any other talent show. But she has indeed proven her might with last week’s show, singing songs that brought her range to the table.
The judges have criticized her in the past for singing such ambitious pieces from Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera and even singing Fantasia’s winning American Idol song as if already proclaiming her victory. Simon reacts the same every single time, saying that she fell short. Yes, she has an outstanding voice but in my opinion, it’s not the kind of talent I’d be thrilled about. I’d definitely prefer fresh, vibrant tones from David Archuleta or a melodic rock album from David Cook.
On tonight’s show, we’ll see the top three each perform songs chosen by them, the judges, and one of their previous songs. We’ll altogether find out Syesha’s fate if she’ll be able to out shine her tough competitors.
