One of the most anticipated Hollywood films this year has certainly lived up to the hype. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is turning some impressive numbers in the box office.
Released Friday last week, the movie has made an estimate of $101M in it’s opening weekend. Since it’s Memorial Day, movie executives are predicting an additional $25M, making Indiana Jones 4 possibly the second highest grossing memorial weekend movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is resting comfortably at number one with a total of $139.8M.
It seems that the franchise has stood the test of time. Paul Dergarabedian of Media by Numbers has commented that even for a film that’s 19 years since the last installation, Dr. Jones still knows how to draw in a crowd.
In the span of five days, the movie is expected to gross a total of $151M. It may still be behind Pirates of the Caribbean by a couple of millions, but still that’s a lot of freakin’ money.
On another note, Prince Caspian and his band of geeks and losers has made $91.1M, but that’s in two weeks. And, frankly, no one gives a shit.
