After directing critically acclaimed films such as Elephant (his take on the Columbine High School shoot-out), Good Will Hunting, and Kurt Cobain’s Last Days, the talented Academy-award winning director Gus Van Sant is back with the much-awaited biopic Milk starring Sean Penn.
Milk is the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in San Francisco and was assasinated along with fellow supervisor Mayor George Moscone by Dan White. Starring with Sean Penn is James Franco (Spiderman), Josh Brolin and Emile Hirsch, the talented actor in Speed Racer and Lords of Dogtown. Sean Penn has directed Emile in Into The Wild as well, a pairing which garnered numerous nominations and awards for the both of them.
Gus Van Sant also directed Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ music video Under The Bridge, the cult film Paranoid Park and is a member of a rock band called Destroy All Blondes. The film is currently in post-production and will be released on the 8th of December late this year. This movie is such a source of ultimate excitement for fans worldwide, seeing Penn and Hirsch in a movie by Gus Van Sant is just simply beyond orgasmic.
Gus Van Sant is known for the complex points of view of his characters, the uncanny transition of his settings and brutal endings that send chills to the very soul of movie critics. For so many years, he has inspired underground filmmakers with a slightly demented take on movies. His skill is so genuine and original, it’s hard to compare him to other art film gurus just because his work has the capacity to sell to the masses and possess aesthetics the alternatuve culture will rave about.
