Not only because she’s from Iceland, but the sound of her voice is like a head plunge to the cooler. It’s so soothing I felt as if she’s carrying me away to the depths of her igloo land.
The folk-sounding trip pop music of Emiliana Torrini stretches out with notes of ambient orchestra that brings the listeners into psychedelia. She sang Gollum’s Song, which was of course included in The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers Soundtrack. The atmospheric tracks of her celebrated album Love In The Time Of Science brings a different kind of euphoric calmness, something that definitely wowed the audiences when she toured with Thievery Corporation and Goldfrapp.
The 27-year old half-Italian half-Islandic singer decided to tame her sound down with just the help of a couple beat-up guitars. With no electronics or any kind of sound-altering device, she released the album The Fisherman’s Woman, where the songs are melodic lullabies fit to be the soundtrack of dreams. There’s nothing better than the right sound to support my constant dream of escaping into a world where I only communicate with giant cotton candy people while riding around in a yummy nougat cupcake car. I’d take her with me too, that strawberry on her mouth would taste delish with my chocolate sofa bed.
