Tom Cruise, the controversial Scientologist has just been unofficially diagnosed by Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of the television show Celebrity Rehab and Love Line.
It has been a rough couple of years for Tom. Ever since his divorce with Nicole Kidman and his love for his present wife Katie Holmes, most people never looked at Tom the same way again. Here was a guy who had it all, and then just blew it when he was at his peak. Some call him crazy, while other say he’s eccentric. But whatever he is, it sure does take someone special to go “ape-shit” on Oprah, and then just snowball from there.
But what could be the cause of this erratic behavior? Dr. Pinsky, in an article in Playboy, suggested that Tom most likely suffered during childhood and that this assumption most likely can be traced from the Hollywood actor’s present actions.
“A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness, and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.”
Dr. Pinsky may have won the favor of countless of Americans with his benevolence, but that obviously isn’t the case with Tom’s lawyer, Bert Fields. “This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them,” said the lawyer who is questionably a brethren Scientologist (maybe).
On the blue corner, Dr . Pinsky’s representatives jabbed their own comments cornering the Cruise incident. They said that, “Although Mr. Fields’s intent is clearly to slander and discredit Dr. Drew, under no circumstances is Dr. Drew making a blanket diagnosis about Scientology nor Mr. Cruise, whom he does not know. Dr. Drew was simply using Mr. Cruise as an example of someone who is recognizable to help the public understand,” and that “Dr. Drew meant him no harm.”
