The trailer of the film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke is out today, the news reviews and previews seem to be choked-up as well. The plot of the movie revolves around Victor, who is addicted in pretending to choke in restaurants to get gift cheques and hanging out in sex addicts meetings to nab some chicks.
By looking at the trailer, it’s safe to say that it’s no contest to the witty and impressive Fight Club (Edward Norton’s muscular physique in that thin urine-hued muscle tank), regardless of the uncommon plot. Director Clark Gregg probably chose to slither away from the big theatrical appeal probably because he wouldn’t want to his movie to be compared with Fight Club. But that’s the thing, Chuck Palahniuk is such an intense writer that his novel deserves a lot more zing when it is translated into film. It seems that his version of Choke is similar to how Wes Anderson narrates his films with a buttload of witty lines and good delivery.
The stars is the film are all unheard-of, aside from Angelica Houston who plays Ida Mancini, the lead character’s mother. Victor is played by Sam Rockwell, who played minor roles in The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Matchstick Men.
it’s too early to say that this film’s a choker and because the novel is one good satiric masterpiece, we’ll have to hope Gregg generated the plot into a dark, perfectly crazy comedy.
