Seeing the huge success that Marvel film adaptations have with movies like Spider Man, X-men, and the latest Iron Man shattering blockbuster records in Hollywood, good ol’ Steve Rogers seems to be still missing from the scene.
Re-introducing a superhero with a highly patriotic and “pro-militaristic” (as written in a Wired blog) background is something that might offend a multitude of movie goers today. With the on-going war in Iraq, the timing may be quite distasteful. However, reports have revealed that a particular arch-nemesis might be able to solve the problem of political correctness. Red Skull is announced to be the superhero’s introductory punching bag. Of course they weren’t going to let our shield wielding hero bust open a can of whoopass on a bunch of Iraqis and Afghans. It would be like putting a magnifying glass on the word hypocrisy. Ok, I’ll shut up now before this post gets deleted.
The Captain America movie which is supposedly titled The First Avenger: Captain America is set to release in 2011, as said in a press conference held by Marvel.
And as if that’s not enough to make longtime fans cream in their pants, an Avengers movie is proposed to release in the same year as Captain America, which is a very brilliant move by Marvel. With the steady flow of films reintroducing new superheros, Marvel is surely getting ready for one big shabang! Soon, we’re probably going to see an all star cast (ala Oceans Eleven etc.) duking it out on screen in all the cinematic glory that our eyes could behold. And to assure our excitement, rumor has it that Tony Stark (Robert Downy Jr.) is said to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming The Incredible Hulk. Just a little taste of integrated casting.
Now to get ready for news about Infinity Gauntlet…
